4/29/2008 - Oral Contraceptive Research Study to Begin in May of 2008

The Anchor Health Centers Research Department has an important study that will begin later in May of 2008.  We expect enrollment will go very quickly.  If you have an interest please call Candy Pewanick at 643-8805 ext. 5 so we can add your name to the list that is already growing!

The study will last for one year and will involve the already marketed contraceptive: YAZ.

The purpose of the study is to compare different dosing methods of the medication.  Traditional monthly use versus 120 days and a break, etc.  (Patients will be assigned randomly to a dosing arm.)

The inclusion criteria is very relaxed, subjects must be between 18 and 35 (if a smoker no older than 30), be sexually active (or have a potential to be) - in other words not using oral contraceptives to regulate menses or for reasons other than contraception.

There is a BMI criteria but it is lenient and we can discuss with you if you feel this may exclude you.  (call before you give up on the idea)

If you qualify for the study you will receive the contraceptive at no cost for 12 months and also receive a stipend payment for your time.

Please let us know if you are interested!
