Anchor Health’s Geriatric team provides the full scope of preventive and diagnostic services and treatment approaches for most adult medical conditions. General wellness and specialty areas include treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, dementia, hypertension, diabetes, memory loss and Parkinson’s disease.

Our scope of services provided include diagnosis and treatment of the following:

Arthritis

Inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and stiffness, and resulting from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances, or other causes. It occurs in various forms, such as bacterial arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Treatments include medications as well as physical and occupational therapy

Alzheimer's Disease care and consultations

A progressive, degenerative brain disease that causes destruction of nerve cells and a decrease in neurotransmitters (chemical messengers), resulting in problems in memory, thinking, and behavior. There are two types of AD, early onset and late onset. Early onset, which appears before age 60, is much less common, accounting for only 5 to 10 percent of cases.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hip, spine, and wrist. Osteoporosis is most common in postmenopausal women.

Parkinson's Disease care and consultations

A disorder of the brain characterized by shaking (tremors) and difficulty with walking, movement, and coordination. The disease is associated with damage to a part of the brain that is involved in movement. Severe Parkinson’s disease can cause dementia.

Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA)

A multidimensional, interdisciplinary diagnostic process to determine the medical, psychological, and functional capabilities of individuals from the age of 50 and above in order to develop a coordinated and integrated plan for treatment and long-term follow-up. While integrating standard medical diagnostic evaluation, CGA emphasizes quality of life and functional status, prognosis, and outcomes that entail a workup of more depth and breadth.

The hallmark of Anchor Health Centers CGA is the employment of all of Anchor's interdisciplinary teams combined with the use of Anchor's state-of-the-art technology and radiology services to evaluate aspects of patient functioning, impairments and social supports, at the highest level of care possible.

If indicated, our team of trained geriatricians will make referrals to experienced, board certified, Anchor Health Centers sub-specialty physicians in areas such as cardiology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, pulmonary and sleep medicine, hematology, orthopedics, and pain management.

Our Geriatric physicians are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
